Tracing Generations, Preserving Memories, and Celebrating Our Ancestry
Jogwad, nestled in the scenic Navsari district of Gujarat, is a village steeped in rich history and heritage. Established approximately 300 years ago, the village was founded by Kasamji Kara Desai, a descendant of the renowned Desai dynasty from Tadkeshwar, Surat. His journey to Jogwad began as a resolution to settle where his horse brought him by evening, leading him through forested lands until he reached the banks of the Ambika River. Kasamji Kara Desai became the first settler, marking the foundation of what would become a vibrant village.
Over the centuries, Jogwad evolved into a thriving community, home to approximately 250 households, primarily of the Suratee Sunni Vhora Muslim Community. The families of Jogwad carry rich ancestral legacies, with many tracing their roots to neighboring villages and towns across Gujarat. These families have also established a global presence, with migration to countries like the UK, US, Canada, South Africa, and beyond during the 20th century. Despite this dispersion, their bonds to Jogwad remain strong, creating a global network tied to their shared history and heritage. Agriculture, particularly mango and sugarcane cultivation, has been the lifeblood of the village's economy, complemented by trade and business activities.
Each family has a unique origin story that adds to Jogwad’s historical tapestry. For instance, the Desai family hails from Tadkeshwar, the Khalifa family from Bilimora and Lasanpur, and the Mulla family from Chasa and Alipore. Other notable families like the Makda, Aswat, Fulat, and Memon have roots in villages such as Ambheta, Lajpur, and Kankriya. Their collective stories showcase a village built on resilience, migration, and a shared commitment to community growth.

The Patel Family Tree of Jogwad Village is a genealogical record containing 500+ individuals, likely covering 9+ generations. This tree was meticulously compiled by Sadiq Patel (UK) between 2006 and 2008, serving as an early attempt to document the Patel lineage.
The Patel family claims descent from Kasamji Kara-Desai, aligning their roots with the broader Desai family of Jogwad. However, the tree has not been updated since its initial creation, and several inconsistencies have emerged over time. One of the most notable challenges is the surname confusion, where some parents are listed as Desai, while their children bear the surname Patel, and vice versa. These discrepancies have made parts of the tree difficult to verify with complete accuracy.
Despite these challenges, the Patel Family Tree remains a valuable historical record, offering insights into the lineage and evolution of surnames within the community. Future updates and research may help clarify these inconsistencies and provide a more accurate representation of the family's history.
